Catifa Carta: an open consultation to validate our approach to sustainability

With Catifa Carta, we envisioned a new possibility: designing the first carbon-negative chair. But testing the validity of an innovation means going beyond the limits of existing measurement models.

To do so, we engaged an independent group of experts in an open consultation process, inviting 70 professionals, researchers, and educators to share their opinions on our analytical approach. We asked them to evaluate an unprecedented scenario: a chair capable of becoming carbon negative thanks to the use of bio-based materials and an end-of-life model in which the shell is transformed into biochar through pyrolysis.

The study was structured on two levels: on one hand, the calculation method was verified by a third-party organization; on the other, the conceptual assumptions were assessed by a panel of experts. We invited them to comment on complex methodological choices, such as the sequestration of biogenic carbon, the allocation of biochar’s environmental benefits, and the definition of system boundaries.

We received positive feedback on the robustness of our approach, as well as valuable insights for future developments. More than a validation, it was an exercise in responsibility: an opportunity to make our method visible, open a dialogue with the scientific community and leading professionals, and test the coherence between vision, action, and impact.

With Catifa Carta, we explore new possibilities — with openness and transparency.
