Metals
We use metal in our products to ensure durability while achieving an elegant design, with various options in shapes, colors, and finishes. Metals are fully recyclable, as they maintain quality through multiple recycling cycles.
We are committed to making Arper an example of responsible leadership, both towards people and the environment as a whole. Central to this commitment is embracing a circular economy, where resources are reused and recycled rather than discarded. This approach helps us reduce waste, lower emissions, and use materials more efficiently, ensuring that our products are both innovative and environmentally friendly. By choosing easily recyclable and rapidly renewable materials, and by finding creative ways to repurpose waste, we strive to set a benchmark in sustainable design.
In 2024, we introduced Catifa Carta, a chair whose shell is crafted entirely from PaperShell, a groundbreaking material derived from paper. Comprising 29 sheets of paper bonded with a natural resin binder, Catifa Carta significantly reduces its environmental footprint by storing carbon dioxide. The paper used to produce PaperShell is sourced responsibly, utilizing residues from Swedish wood production, such as sawdust, chips, and branches.
At the end of its lifecycle, Catifa Carta can undergo pyrolysis, a process that occurs in the absence of oxygen and prevents CO2 release. Through pyrolysis, PaperShell is converted into biochar—a form of charcoal produced from plant matter, consisting of up to 90% carbon, which effectively locks CO2 and prevents its release into the atmosphere. Biochar is best used as a soil enhancer, helping to restore soil to its natural richness and supporting biodiversity, a key element for a healthier and more balanced environment.
Our wooden products are designed and crafted with meticulous attention to detail, combining the natural beauty of wood with innovative design principles. We are committed to sustainability, ensuring that natural resources are preserved for future generations while providing elegant and timeless furniture solutions.
In 2019, we obtained the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) certification, which ensures the traceability of wood and its derivatives. This certification guarantees that our supply chain is thoroughly monitored, from forest to consumer, preventing deforestation and preserving biological diversity. We are committed to steadily increasing the percentage of FSC-certified wood in our products.
As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, we have made significant strides in optimizing our material usage. For example, we have successfully increased the utilization of post-consumer and post-industrial recycled polypropylene in our production processes.
We prioritize durability, recognizing it as a core attribute of plastic. Therefore, we are committed to leveraging the extended lifespan that plastic can offer. We carefully explore opportunities to give plastic new life, ensuring that our components are designed for disassembly, with clear instructions for recycling and upcycling.
Our material selection reflects our commitment to responsibility, authenticity, and life-centered design. Each material is carefully chosen to ensure structural integrity, functionality, and responsible resource management.
