Our five-episode series “Color: a journey through art and design" continues with the second episode “Symbolic color" dedicated to the evolution of the symbolism of color.
Gražina Subelytė – Associate Curator at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection – will explain how color symbolism tends to be determined culturally and inevitably influenced by changes over time.
The symbolic and shared system of meaning of color is different in every culture, and it reflects the values and beliefs of its context. Colors as symbols are widely used and learning about them is part of a social learning process. The same color can have very different associations even within the same culture in diverse periods or, perhaps, even at the same time.
Do not miss it!
