When I travel, a comfortable chair in a hotel lobby is as apt a workspace as my publisher’s desk or our conference room. Conducting an interview or meeting with a client over coffee or a drink at the hotel bar creates a sense of domestic familiarity, even when I’m far from home.

A brief break between meetings and I can stop in to the lobby couch to respond to a few emails and take in a quick espresso before heading on to my next appointment.

With WiFi connecting me to my central office, I am free to travel around the world, reporting back on the adventures of the day from my laptop as I sit watching arriving guests check-in for the night.

This makeshift office is my hub—a comfortable, supportive place to work with everything I need all within arm’s reach, and a connection back to the office at is as easy as hitting “reply.”
